Hey Y’all! Welcome back to Falling In Love With Fitness! I am so excited for my new blog post! Today, I will be talking about ways to keep meals fun and delicious while prioritizing fitness goals!
The biggest misconception about trying to lose weight or working towards fitness goals is that you have to make sacrifices in the kitchen. People have been brainwashed into thinking grilled chicken, rice, and broccoli are the only foods for fitness, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. I have always been a big foodie, so when I started my weight loss journey, I thought I was going to be miserable. I was determined to enjoy my favorite foods and still see progress. And that is exactly what I did! I got creative in the kitchen to make healthy meals that tasted amazing, and continued eating out. But I learned how to choose options that would work with my goals. I want to share some of my favorite tips for how I keep food fun with fitness goals.
How to keep Food Fun with Fitness Goals
Tip #1: Low Calorie Volume Snacks
Before I started my weight loss journey, snacking was my biggest downfall, and I thought it would continue to be. But my problem wasn’t snacking, it was what I was eating as my snacks. After I swapped my Doritos for my Popcorners, I was able to eat more of them for the same amount of calories. This way it felt like I was eating more while consuming the same amount of calories I would have if I ate two Doritos.
Tip #2: Prioritize Your Calorie Budget
There are some foods that you just cannot live without. Mine is hands down candy and desserts. I have the biggest sweet tooth ever, so I knew giving that up was not an option for me. Instead of fully cutting sweets out of my diet, I just worked around them. When I was eating in a calorie deficit, if there was something I really wanted, I would just adjust the rest of my daily calories to fit it in. It’s just like a budget!
Tip #3: Try New Things
Growing up, I was the pickiest eater known to man. You could not have paid me to eat a fruit or vegetable. It was the equivalent of eating sand; I absolutely hated it. But now, at 21 years old, I love so many foods that used to make me gag. They always say that you never know, your taste buds may change, and mine did. During my weight loss journey, I retried so many foods and realized how good they actually are. Now that my palette has expanded, I can be even more creative in the kitchen and when eating out.
