Hey Y’all! Welcome back to Falling In Love With Fitness! I am so excited for my new blog post! Today, I will be discussing how to balance time management in the gym!
Finding time to commit to the gym can be hard with a busy schedule. As someone who is constantly juggling classes, internships, etc. I know this struggle very well. I have found that morning workouts work the best for me, but they still come with their challenges. Since I have class at 8 am and my campus gym does not open until 6 am, that gives me 2 hours to work out, shower, get ready, and make it to class. Which is not a lot of time. This has caused me to get creative with managing my time in the gym and utilize every second to the fullest. Time management is a skill that applies to every area of our lives. I want to share my favorite tips for managing your time in the gym to show that effective workouts don’t equal spending hours in the gym.
Time Management Tips
#1 Have A Plan
Before stepping foot into the gym, you should have a plan for what you are going to do. This will eliminate so much wasted time trying to figure out what you are going to do for your workout. Try making a weekly schedule and sticking to it. I personally always train legs and do an incline walk on Mondays. So every time I go to the gym on Monday, I know that is what I’m doing, and I’m not wasting time figuring out my workout on the spot.
#2 Don’t Overcomplicate It
Keeping things simple in the gym is the name of the game. The second you overcomplicate your workouts is when you are going to get overwhelmed. Especially when you are new to the gym. I love following videos on YouTube for my lifts. They have built-in timers, so I know exactly how long each set and rest is. It also helps with time because you can find a video for exactly how long you have for your workout. Back to my example for my Mondays, I follow a 20-minute lower body lifting video and then walk on the treadmill for 25 minutes. By keeping it simple, I am able to still have an effective workout in just 45 minutes.
#3 Stay Consistent
Being consistent in your training will make time management feel like a piece of cake. If you are always doing the same workouts, you will know exactly how long it will take to complete. The more you do something, the more it feels like second nature. By following the same routine on repeat, the workout that originally took you 30 minutes to complete will start getting faster over time.
#4 Minimize Distractions
The number 1 cause of dilly-dallying in the gym is getting distracted during your workout. If you are able to limit these distractions, you will be able to fit more into your small window of time for your workout. If we have 45 minutes to get our workout in, we do not want to spend half of it playing on our phone because we were resting between sets and lost track of time. You can minimize these distractions by following workout videos or setting timers on your phone.
